LONE WOLF

When the dawns early light opened up the morning sky

I crawled out from a rock along the slippery brookside

There was a chill in the air, there was a wind on the howl

Auburn leaves now brown tarnish the ground

So I picked myself up and dusted off my heavy coat

Still lingering on my breath was the scent of blood and bone

Then I set on my way leaving solitary tracks

Cause I’ve never been one to run with the pack

I went aimlessly wondering out in the mist

Hot on the trail of my keen sixth sense

Until I came to a clearing, a scene of dead meadow

And a nameless little town in the valley below

Looking down on the streets and all the people alike

Knowing they won’t take too kindly to likes of my kind

Cause when you’ve been around enough, you know enough to know where you belong

Or you contend with their knives, with their guns, with their laws

So I turned back up the hillside over jagged terrain

On my endless pursuit for the one that got away

The landscape’s just a graveyard of foe and of friend

Tomorrow’s just a journey of where I’ve already been

So when the coming seasons change like they’re forever gonna do

I’ll grow weary, I’ll grow grey, I’ll grow long in the tooth

Still I’ll be singing melodies at the silver glowing moon

Counting all my precious scars and licking my wounds

This world is will against will

Kill or be killed

There’s imminent danger

You feast or taste the hunger

It’s a fight to survive this life on the hunt

All in the name, the sweet name of love
